To successfully overclock your CPU, you must access the BIOS setup of your computer.

To check your speed on a Windows 10 PC, click Windows key + R to launch the Run Program, type in "dxdiag," code, and press "Enter." The code will fire up the DirectX Diagnostic Tool. The window will pop up with detailed system information about your computer. Below is the information about my processor's speed, as shown by the "dxdiag" command.
The short answer is no. Not all computers can be overclocked, and laptop users are discouraged from attempting to overclock their processors as well. When talking about overclocking, it is essential to note that not all processors can be overclocked. Not all Intel processors can be overclocked; however, all AMD "Ryzen" processors can be overclocked. So how can you know whether your Intel processor is overclockable?

By looking at the image above, you can see that my CPU specifications indicate that I am running an Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-6200U from 2.3GHz (4 CPUs) to 2.4 GHz. To determine if the processor can be overclocked, you need to look at the lettering after the CPU's generation information.
For instance, my CPU is a generation 6 Intel processor, which is arguably very old since Intel has already released 10th generation processors at the time of this writing. After the i5 notation, the 6200U indicates that the processor is a 6th generation Intel processor. 7th generation processors will begin with a seven and 8th generation with an eight and so on.
The bad news for me, my CPU cannot be overclocked since it is denoted by the letter U after the generation notation. Most laptop processors are generally not designed to be overclocked since overclocking comes with various challenges that may be hard to navigate on a Laptop computer.
Intel processors that can be overclocked are essentially known as unlocked processors and are always denoted by the letters K or X at the end of the name. Using my laptop's processor as an example, if it were an Intel Core(TM) i5-6200K or an Intel Core(TM) i5-6200X, it would be possible to overclock it.

Firstly, you will need to access your BIOS.
BIOS is short for Basic Input/Output System and is often used interchangeably with UEFI, which stands for Unified Extensible Firmware Interface. It is available on all computers and is accessible by interrupting the normal booting process of a Windows computer. So how exactly can you access the BIOS? Well, follow the steps below.

An outrageous increase in the multiplier may damage your PC, result in overheating that may end up melting the processor itself. So be cautious.

Stress testing allows you to test your CPU at maximum capacity by running it at 100% load. If the PC runs smoothly at this point, you can be sure that the overclocking is safe, and you will not run into trouble.

Therefore, to counter the adverse heating effects, you must install a cooling system to control the excess heat. Most processors have a maximum thermal limit for both the GPU and CPU and are usually capped at 100 degrees celsius or slightly higher.
